The Keys to His Kingdom
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12:32 (KJV)
Yard sales are great ways to clean out your house and make a little money. When we were moving to Florida, we sold nearly everything we owned over several such sales. My three sons were filled with different emotions as they watched parts of their lives disappear.
The swing set in the back yard was difficult to part with but the boys were grateful it went to a nice family. When the fish tank went, my middle son, Michael, began to weep. He cried and said how much he loved the fish and didn’t want to see them go. He was grieving more than just a fish tank – it was his familiar way of life. As the old couch was hauled away, all the boys disappeared into sorrow at the loss of their Colorado comforts. Stepping into the unknown world called “Florida” wasn’t easy for any of us.
God had asked us to step out in faith and to trust Him in moving promising that He would bless us. The new house didn’t look good and only started feeling normal after a year of work. Yet by investing our time and energy, we found our beautiful home eventually. In the end, selling our possession and following God’s will was the best investment we ever made.
Treasures come in all shapes and sizes. Where is your treasure today? Is it invested in the lives of those around you? Can you look at capital gains in terms of human souls that God has used you to bring to Him? Have faith and know that it will take eternity to see the abundance God has stored for you in Heaven because of your faithfulness to His calling.
