A Sign Unto You…
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15:4
I met a new friend for lunch the other day. She wore her name badge from the Pregnancy Care Center so I could recognize her. As we began looking over the menu our waitress commented on her nametag. Within a few minutes this young girl confessed to a recent abortion. Between the various parts of serving our meal we heard her heartbreaking story and saw her evident pain. It was a wonderful opportunity to be used by God to give her hope and connect her to help and a local church. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a lunch more and was grateful to Kathy for wearing her badge.
How often are you able to minister to total strangers outside your normal ministry environment? Those in crisis are always near. They can be found in supermarkets, airplanes, county jails or prisons, homeless shelters, as well as in some of the finest homes in America. God can give us the courage to be obvious about our work when the Spirit leads so that listeners may find help.
God knows where all His sheep live and can easily bring opportunities for you to minister in ways you never imagined if you openly share about your work. Remember that you were once a lost lamb and God brought you home. Think about the people He used to help you. Open your heart and rejoice that He is using you to now help others! Don’t wait for them to find you – go out and search for them!
